Product Description

Botany Fruit Admiral Peach Duhamel Du Monceau  French 1768

 Madeleine (Peach)

Antique stipple and line copper-plate engraving by Claude Aubriet (French illustrator and botanical artist, 1665-1742) with vibrant contemporary hand colouring for the monumental fruit-tree horticultural study produced by the French botanist Henri Louis Duhamel Du Monceau, Traité des Arbres Fruitiers.

The use of color-printed stipple engravings helped to artistically achieve the supple delicacy of the fruits and foliage. Many of the artists and engravers for this great series engravers were members of the golden age of French botanical illustration like Pierre-Joseph Redoute, and including the printer, Langlois.

Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1782) was one of outstanding botanists and horticulturists of the 18th century, and among the most important French writers on fruit, plant physiology and agriculture.
