Genuine antique chromolithograph botanical after artist Carl Lindman.

Also known as "Birds-nest" orchid, it is native to temperate, subartic and arctic areas of Europe, China, Siberia. Iran, Central Asia. The genus is completely without chlorophyll, the leaves reduced to scales. The orchid is dependent on fungi for nutrition.

Lindman was the Professor of the Botany Department at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in 1905. He had traveled on many botanical journeys to Europe, Africa and South America by that time and had become a revered botanist. ahe his best remembered for his comprehensive botanical work, "Bilder ur Nordens Flora", published A. Börtzells Stockholm, Sweden 1901-1905. Lindman was appointed Professor of Botany at the Swedish Museum of Natural History.
